Community Hosts Free Science Expo at Tillicum Centre
A free, hands-on science expo organized by the community-driven non-profit, Passport to Science, will take place at Tillicum Centre in Saanich on January 31, 2024. The event aims to make science engaging and accessible to all, featuring interactive exhibits designed to ignite curiosity among attendees of all ages.
The expo will consist of two timed sessions: the first from 10 a.m. to noon and the second from noon to 2 p.m. Participants can look forward to a range of activities that include meeting dinosaurs, exploring robotics, studying insects, and engaging in hands-on experiments. These activities will be facilitated by various science organizations from the region, all dedicated to promoting science education.
Passport to Science is focused on eliminating financial barriers to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) education. Organizers believe that making science fun and accessible is crucial for community engagement and learning. In addition to the exhibits, the expo will serve as a pre-order opportunity for the upcoming free 2026 Passports to Science, which will allow participants to explore partner STEAM organizations. Participants can pick up their passports at a follow-up event scheduled during the March break.
Admission to the science expo is free, but reservations are necessary to manage attendance effectively. This ensures that all attendees can fully engage with the exhibits and activities offered. For additional information and to register for the event, interested individuals are encouraged to visit www.eventbrite.ca.
By fostering a love for science through hands-on experiences, this expo not only promotes educational outreach but also builds community connections, making science an exciting venture for everyone involved.
