Constellation Appoints Chris Mudrick as New Chief Nuclear Officer
Constellation has announced the appointment of Chris Mudrick as its new chief nuclear officer, effective September 29, 2025. Mudrick will take over from Dave Rhoades, who is retiring at the end of the year after a successful tenure that began in 2021.
In a statement released on September 4, Constellation highlighted Rhoades’ significant contributions to the company and the nuclear industry. Joe Dominguez, president and CEO of Constellation, praised Rhoades’ legacy, stating that he has left “an indelible mark on our company and our industry.” Dominguez emphasized Rhoades’ commitment to safety, reliability, and operational excellence.
Chris Mudrick brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served as senior vice president of generation growth since rejoining Constellation last year. Prior to this, he held the position of chief nuclear officer at Bruce Power in Canada for four years. His extensive background includes over 30 years in leadership roles at Constellation, where he has been instrumental in various operational improvements.
Leadership Transition and Achievements
Under Rhoades’ leadership, Constellation has achieved an industry-leading capacity factor of over 94% across its clean energy centers in the past decade. This performance is a key indicator of reliability, and Rhoades was recognized for his role in positioning the company as a leader in the nuclear sector. Bryan Hanson, chief generation officer at Constellation, remarked on Rhoades’ immeasurable contributions, stating, “Under his leadership, Constellation routinely led the industry in annual capacity factors and outage durations.”
Rhoades has been pivotal in driving operational innovations, notably in the digitalization of equipment and the efficiency of refueling outages. Previously, these outages could extend for over a month, but Rhoades’ focus on detailed planning and streamlined activities has reduced this timeframe to less than three weeks.
Looking Ahead with Mudrick
As Chris Mudrick steps into the role of chief nuclear officer, he aims to build upon Rhoades’ strong foundation. Dominguez noted Mudrick’s “decades of technical, operational and leadership experience,” highlighting his qualifications to lead America’s largest nuclear fleet.
Since Mudrick’s return to Constellation, he has played a crucial role in the restart of the Crane Clean Energy Center and has supported various growth and data economy initiatives. His expertise will be essential in continuing to deliver clean energy to homes and businesses across the country while maintaining high operational standards.
As Constellation prepares for this transition, the company remains committed to advancing its leadership in the nuclear energy sector and addressing the growing demand for clean energy solutions.
