Lethbridge Polytechnic Achieves Top 10 Ranking in Research Colleges
Lethbridge Polytechnic has secured its position among Canada’s leading research colleges, achieving a ranking of ninth in the latest report by Research Infosource. This marks an improvement from its tenth-place position last year and eleventh in 2023. The report highlights the institution’s commitment to applied research, which began with the establishment of the Aquaculture Centre of Excellence in 1999.
The polytechnic’s success is attributed to the expansion of its research operations through the Centre of Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This centre now covers five key themes: agriculture, food and environment, business and technology, health and wellness, and justice and public safety.
Kenny Corscadden, Vice-President of Academic and Research at Lethbridge Polytechnic, expressed pride in the institution’s achievement. In a statement released on Thursday, Corscadden remarked, “Being recognized for our applied research, when compared with so many other institutions across Canada, is a remarkable win for the polytechnic. Over the past three years, we have consistently demonstrated our ability to compete at the national level.”
The recognition is particularly significant as it reinforces Lethbridge Polytechnic’s role in providing meaningful research and learning opportunities. Corscadden noted that the institution is becoming a preferred choice for students and researchers aiming to create a positive impact in various sectors.
In his remarks, Andrew Dunlop, Associate Vice-President of Research, emphasized the importance of the polytechnic’s responsiveness to industry and community needs. He stated, “Lethbridge Polytechnic has worked to diversify our research capabilities, develop relationships with stakeholders and leverage the strengths of our researchers to solve challenges and problems.”
Dunlop also discussed the institution’s evolving identity since transforming from Lethbridge College to a polytechnic. He mentioned the importance of establishing a new brand that reflects its broadened mandate. “To have that high ranking just gives people confidence that they’re working with an institution where they know what they’re doing in this area,” he added.
The recognition by Research Infosource not only highlights Lethbridge Polytechnic’s research capabilities but also signals its growing influence in addressing contemporary challenges through innovative solutions. The institution is committed to fostering an environment where applied research thrives, ensuring its contributions resonate within the community and beyond.
