Aaron Sanchez Joins Kansas City Royals on Minor-League Deal
Aaron Sanchez, a veteran right-handed pitcher, has signed a minor-league contract with the Kansas City Royals, which includes an invitation to participate in spring training. This development was reported by MLB insider Robert Murray on March 12, 2024. Sanchez, who is now 33 years old, aims to revitalize his career with the Royals after his last appearance in Major League Baseball (MLB) in 2022.
Over the course of the 2022 season, Sanchez made a total of 15 appearances for the Minnesota Twins and the Washington Nationals. In the following years, he continued to pitch at the triple-A level and recently competed in the Dominican Winter League, where he made eight starts. Sanchez is best known for his time with the Toronto Blue Jays, where he had his most successful seasons, notably in 2016 when he earned an All-Star selection.
Career Highlights and Statistics
Sanchez played six seasons with the Blue Jays from 2014 until a trade to the Houston Astros during the 2019 season. To date, he has participated in a total of 174 MLB games, of which 113 were as a starter. His career statistics include a 4.16 earned run average (ERA) and 541 strikeouts. These numbers reflect a solid track record, although recent seasons have seen a decline in his major league presence.
The Royals are hopeful that Sanchez can bring valuable experience to their pitching staff. With a history of strong performances, particularly during his peak years, his addition could benefit Kansas City as they prepare for the upcoming season. The decision to invite Sanchez to spring training suggests that the organization is interested in assessing his potential for a return to the MLB.
As spring training approaches, the Royals will evaluate Sanchez’s performance closely. If he demonstrates his capabilities, he could secure a spot on the team’s roster for the 2024 season, potentially adding depth to their pitching options.
With this minor-league agreement, Sanchez has a chance to showcase his skills and make a significant impact as he seeks to reinvigorate his career in Kansas City.
