Anthony Davis Shines with 32 Points in Mavericks’ Win Over Nuggets
In a compelling matchup on March 18, 2024, the Dallas Mavericks triumphed over the Denver Nuggets with a score of 131-121. The victory was highlighted by a standout performance from Anthony Davis, who scored a season-high 32 points in only his second game since returning from injury. This win marks the Mavericks’ first consecutive victories of the season.
Davis showcased his impressive skills, contributing not only in scoring but also in rebounding, as he collected 13 boards to match his season high. Rookie Ryan Nembhard also made a significant impact, posting 28 points and 10 assists, both establishing new career bests. Additionally, Cooper Flagg added 24 points, helping the Mavericks secure the win with an impressive shooting performance from beyond the arc, where the team converted 16 of 31 attempts.
The Nuggets, struggling at home, faced their fourth consecutive loss, three of which were against teams with losing records. Despite a standout effort from Nikola Jokic, who recorded his 11th triple-double of the season with 29 points, 20 rebounds, and 13 assists, Denver was unable to secure a win. The night was particularly disappointing for Spencer Jones, who also delivered a strong performance with 28 points but could not lead his team to victory.
In a turn of events, the Nuggets played without Jamal Murray during the fourth quarter. Murray, who had been dealing with injuries, appeared to be struggling as he left the game after the first minute of the third quarter. He was seen walking gingerly to the locker room but returned briefly before ultimately sitting out for the remainder of the game.
The Mavericks initially trailed by four points with 9:31 remaining in the game. However, they launched an 18-5 run, taking a commanding lead of 129-117 with just 1:29 left on the clock. The Nuggets faced a tough stretch, missing 10 consecutive shots, including six attempts from three-point range, until Peyton Watson managed to score two quick baskets to close the gap.
The Mavericks will look to continue their winning streak as they host the Miami Heat on March 20, 2024. Meanwhile, the Nuggets will embark on a challenging four-game road trip, starting with a matchup against the Indiana Pacers on the same day.
