Blue Jays Rally with Springer’s Heroics to Claim AL Pennant

In a thrilling Game 7 showdown, the Toronto Blue Jays secured a dramatic 4-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on October 20, 2025, clinching their first American League pennant since 1993. The game featured a pivotal moment when outfielder George Springer hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning, propelling the Blue Jays into the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Decisive Moment
Springer’s key hit not only sealed the victory but also marked his fourth home run of the postseason and the 23rd of his playoff career. “I knew I had got the guy in from third, which was all I was trying to do,” he said in a jubilant locker room celebration. “And then it went out of the park. I’ll take it.” The home run came off reliever Eduard Bazardo and cleared the wall by mere inches, landing in the first row of seats.
With teammates Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Addison Barger on base, Springer’s impressive 384-foot blast turned the tide in favor of Toronto. Closer Jeff Hoffman then struck out the side in the ninth inning, securing the victory and cementing the Blue Jays’ place in the World Series.
Season of Comebacks
The Blue Jays have built their success on resilience, recording a league-high 49 comeback wins during the regular season. This knack for rallying was crucial as they overcame Seattle, winning four of their final five games in the series after initially dropping the first two at home. Their regular season concluded with a tie on wins with the New York Yankees, but a head-to-head tiebreaker allowed them to claim the East Division title.
Toronto advanced past the wild-card round and eliminated the Yankees in the American League Division Series, marking their return to the championship series for the first time since 2016. “We’re all in it together and it’s what it’s all about,” said pitcher Eric Lauer amid celebrations. The locker room was filled with laughter and cheers as players reveled in their success.
The atmosphere was electric as fans filled the stadium, witnessing a game that saw both teams trade early runs. The Mariners’ Julio Rodriguez opened the scoring with a solo home run in the third inning, followed by Cal Raleigh extending Seattle’s lead to 3-1 with another solo shot in the fifth. However, the Blue Jays rallied in the seventh, reigniting the crowd of 44,770.
Despite a slow start to the game, the Blue Jays found their momentum when Barger walked and Kiner-Falefa singled, setting the stage for Springer’s historic moment. “I blacked out,” Springer joked as he reflected on the home run that will be remembered alongside Joe Carter’s World Series walk-off in 1993, Jose Bautista’s iconic bat flip in 2015, and other legendary moments in franchise history.
As they prepare for the World Series, the Blue Jays are set to face a formidable opponent in Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers. “We know they’re a great team and I know we’re a great team — built differently,” remarked manager John Schneider. “But man, I can’t wait to go toe to toe with them.”
With the celebration still in full swing, pitcher Max Scherzer humorously noted, “We’re all out of beer,” as the team looked forward to the next challenge. The Blue Jays’ journey continues, and they find themselves just four wins away from a coveted World Series title.
