Blue Jays Trade Justin Bruihl to Guardians for Cash Considerations
The Toronto Blue Jays have traded left-handed reliever Justin Bruihl to the Cleveland Guardians for cash considerations. The announcement was made on Wednesday, marking a significant roster move for both teams. To accommodate Bruihl, the Guardians designated outfielder Jhonkensy Noel for assignment.
Bruihl, 28, had been designated for assignment by the Blue Jays earlier this month after the team signed reliever Tyler Rogers. During the 2023 season, he made 15 appearances for Toronto, pitching a total of 13.2 innings with a 5.27 ERA. Notably, he was included in Toronto’s post-season roster for the American League Division Series against the New York Yankees, where he allowed two runs in just 0.1 innings of work.
The acquisition of Bruihl adds depth to Cleveland’s bullpen as they prepare for the upcoming season. His left-handed pitching skills could provide valuable matchups in critical game situations. The Guardians have made it clear that they are looking to strengthen their roster as they aim for a competitive 2024 campaign.
Noel, who is 24 years old, struggled at the plate last season, finishing with a batting average of just .162. He recorded six home runs and 13 RBIs in 69 games, and the decision to designate him for assignment reflects Cleveland’s ongoing efforts to refine their lineup.
This trade illustrates the dynamic nature of Major League Baseball, where teams constantly evaluate their rosters and make adjustments as necessary. For Bruihl, the move to Cleveland represents an opportunity to revitalize his career in a new environment.
As the off-season progresses, both teams will be monitored closely for further roster changes as they prepare for the challenges ahead in the coming season.
