Eberle’s Two Goals Propel Kraken to 3-2 Victory Over Oilers
The Seattle Kraken secured a thrilling 3-2 victory against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night, bolstered by a standout performance from Jordan Eberle, who scored two goals. Both of Eberle’s goals were assisted by Matty Beniers, contributing to a stellar start for the Kraken this season with a record of 5-2-2. This win marks the best start in the franchise’s history.
In a game played at Climate Pledge Arena, Tye Kartiye also netted his first goal of the season, further solidifying the Kraken’s offensive momentum. The team has now achieved victories over both the previous season’s President’s Trophy winner, the Winnipeg Jets, and the Stanley Cup runner-up, the Edmonton Oilers.
The Kraken’s goaltender, Joey Daccord, made 31 saves, adding to his tally of just two wins in nine career games against the Oilers. The Oilers, who had previously dominated Seattle with nine wins in their last ten encounters, faced a strong challenge from the home team.
The scoring began early in the match, with Eberle finding the back of the net just 1:23 into the first period. He received a precise cross-ice pass from Beniers and delivered a powerful shot over Stuart Skinner, the Oilers’ goaltender, from the right circle. This early goal set the tone for the Kraken as they sought to build on their recent successes.
Kartiye extended the Kraken’s lead to 2-0 at 6:35 of the second period, firing a shot from the slot that found its mark. The Oilers responded with a power-play goal from Evan Bouchard with just 4:39 remaining in the second period, marking the Oilers’ fifth power-play goal in three games.
Eberle struck again to put Seattle ahead 3-1, scoring with 7:39 left in the third period on another assist from Beniers. This goal showcased Eberle’s sharp shooting ability right in front of Skinner. The Oilers did not go quietly, as Darnell Nurse scored from just inside the blue line with 5:25 left, narrowing the gap to 3-2.
The Kraken’s next challenge will be against the Montreal Canadiens at home on Tuesday, while the Oilers will visit the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday.
This victory not only highlights the Kraken’s impressive start but also illustrates their potential to compete at a high level against formidable opponents. As the season progresses, fans will be eager to see how the team continues to develop under pressure and maintain their positive momentum.
