The draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup took place today, revealing the matchups for the tournament co-hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico. This event, held at the prestigious John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., marks a significant milestone as Canada learns its opponents for next summer’s competition.

With a total of 48 teams participating, the draw divides these teams into 12 groups. The co-hosts, including Canada, are placed in Pot 1, along with top-ranked teams such as Argentina, England, and Brazil. Currently, 42 of the 48 teams have been confirmed, with the remaining six spots to be filled through playoffs scheduled for March 2026.

A notable gathering of dignitaries attended the event, including Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. Their presence underscores the collaborative spirit of this historic tournament, which is the first to feature an expanded format.

Canada will kick off its campaign in Group B on June 12, 2026, in Toronto, facing an opponent drawn from Pot 4. Following this match, the team will head to Vancouver, where they will play against a team from Pot 3 on June 18 and then a Pot 2 team on June 24. Both Vancouver matches will be hosted at B.C. Place Stadium.

As the tournament draws nearer, excitement builds not only among players but also among fans eager to see how their teams will compete on this global stage. The Canadian men’s national team is set to make its mark, having qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1986.

The anticipation surrounding the tournament is palpable, and as preparations continue, Canada remains focused on making a strong impression in front of home fans.
