Guerrero and Judge Shine at All-Star Game Before Key AL East Clash

The All-Star Game in Atlanta showcased the talents and camaraderie of top baseball players, with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Aaron Judge emerging as notable figures. Guerrero, representing the Toronto Blue Jays, participated in his fifth All-Star contest, finishing 1-for-2 for the American League. Emphasizing the importance of learning from peers, he stated, “We’re talking about hitting, we’re talking about family, we’re talking about everything.” The two sluggers will soon face off again, as the New York Yankees are set to visit Toronto for a crucial three-game series, with the AL East standings at stake.
Guerrero expressed his respect for Judge, highlighting their interactions in the clubhouse. “If I see him in the clubhouse, I always try to talk with him, talk about hitting,” Guerrero said. As the Blue Jays sit two games ahead in the AL East, the upcoming series against Judge’s Yankees adds significant pressure to both teams. Guerrero remarked on the transition from the All-Star festivities to the competitive nature of the season, stating, “Here at the All-Star Game, we’re not thinking about the season, we’re trying to enjoy every moment.”
Ray Mentors Manoah Through Recovery Journey
In other All-Star news, Robbie Ray, the 2021 AL Cy Young Award winner, discussed his relationship with Alek Manoah, a fellow Blue Jays pitcher currently recovering from reconstructive elbow surgery. Ray, now with the San Francisco Giants, referred to Manoah as “like a little brother” and shared his own experiences with the Tommy John procedure. Despite his return last season, Ray noted that this year he has finally started to feel like himself again, boasting a 2.65 ERA in 119 innings.
Ray offered guidance to Manoah during his recovery, emphasizing that regaining normalcy takes time. Manoah recently began his rehabilitation with a challenging outing in the Florida Complex League, where he allowed four runs in just one-third of an inning. Reflecting on his own return to the majors, Ray recalled feeling erratic despite being healthy. “Some days, you’re going to go out there and you’re not going to have a clue where the ball is going,” he said, explaining how timing is crucial for a pitcher’s success.
Adam Thrives with Newfound Strategy
Among the All-Stars, Jason Adam of the San Diego Padres shared insights from his journey in the league. After a promising but brief stint with the Blue Jays in 2019, Adam found renewed success with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2022. He credited the Rays for unlocking his potential by simplifying his pitching strategy. Adam noted that changing his pitch mix to fastball, slider, and changeup while targeting the strike zone consistently transformed his performance.
Adam’s impressive 1.56 ERA in 67 games with the Rays solidified his position as a first-time All-Star. He reflected on how the Rays’ approach helped him regain confidence in his abilities, stating, “I was at the point of my career, sink or swim. So I was like, Whatever you say, I’m in.” His success eventually led to a trade to San Diego, further enhancing his reputation in the league.
In a lighter moment, Guerrero expressed his excitement about the possibility of hosting an All-Star Game in Toronto, saying, “I can’t wait for that. I’m saving myself for the Derby in Toronto.” As the baseball season heats up, the interplay between All-Star camaraderie and competitive rivalry will undoubtedly continue to captivate fans across the globe.
