Jakob Poeltl Returns to Raptors Lineup Against Pistons After Injury
The Toronto Raptors will see the return of centre Jakob Poeltl as they face the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, marking a significant moment for the team. Head coach Darko Rajakovic confirmed Poeltl’s comeback after a prolonged absence due to injury. The Austrian player has not participated in a game since December 21, 2023, when he played just seven minutes due to persistent back pain.
Poeltl, 30, has appeared in only 21 games this season, averaging 9.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, while maintaining an impressive shooting percentage of 64.9 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from the free-throw line. Although Rajakovic indicated that Poeltl will be on an unspecified minutes restriction during his return, his presence will be crucial against the Pistons.
Pistons Without Key Players
The Raptors are facing the Pistons during a pivotal moment, as Detroit will be missing key frontcourt players Jalen Duren and Isaiah Stewart. Both players are suspended following an altercation in a game against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday. This absence could provide Poeltl with a favorable opportunity to make an impactful return.
The Raptors currently hold a record of 32-22 and are positioned fifth in the Eastern Conference, while the Pistons lead the conference with a record of 39-13, sitting 5.5 games ahead of the second-place Boston Celtics. The Raptors will also be without rookie Collin Murray-Boyles, who is sidelined with a right thumb sprain.
As the Raptors aim to improve their standings, Poeltl’s return could play a pivotal role in their strategy against a formidable opponent. The game is set to begin at 19:00 local time, as fans anticipate an exciting matchup filled with high stakes and potential playoff implications.
