Jaxson Dart Cleared for Return Against Patriots on Monday Night
New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart has successfully cleared concussion protocol, allowing him to return to the field for the Monday night game against the New England Patriots. Dart missed the previous two games due to a concussion sustained on November 9, 2023, during a match against the Chicago Bears. In his absence, Jameis Winston stepped in as the starting quarterback.
Dart’s return comes after he practiced fully for the first time on Wednesday, following limited participation in the previous week’s sessions. The first-round pick has been a significant presence for the Giants, starting in seven games this season, where he has thrown for 10 touchdowns and rushed for seven more.
Positive Developments for Dart Ahead of Monday’s Matchup
A source close to the situation indicated that Dart was disappointed not to play last Sunday against the Detroit Lions, as he felt prepared to take the field. He had taken practice reps early in the week, signaling his readiness, but ultimately did not receive clearance. On Thursday, Dart met with an independent neurologist, marking the last step in the concussion protocol, and received the green light to return to play.
Interim head coach Mike Kafka expressed confidence in Dart’s development, noting, “We’ll kind of carry that into this week and then just really see what ends up happening throughout the process with Jaxson being in the protocol.” Kafka has been calling plays since Brian Daboll was dismissed the day after Dart’s concussion.
Dart’s aggressive playing style has generated discussion among teammates and coaches alike. Several players have urged him to adopt a more cautious approach, including sliding to avoid contact and stepping out of bounds when possible. Teammates acknowledge that Dart cannot continue to absorb the high volume of hits, averaging close to 10 per game.
Looking Ahead: Giants’ Struggles and Dart’s Impact
The Giants enter Monday’s game with a record of 2-10 and are currently mired in a six-game losing streak. Moreover, they are facing a franchise-record 12-game losing streak on the road. Following this week’s game, the Giants will have a bye week to regroup.
Winston expressed his support for Dart, stating, “I was grateful, but at the same time, I felt for him because I know how much work he puts in, and I know how he prepares.” He emphasized that the team is maintaining the same focus in practice, hoping Dart’s return will help secure a much-needed victory.
As the Giants prepare to face the Patriots, all eyes will be on Dart to see if he can lead the team to a turnaround in their challenging season.
