Jesse Marsch Predicts World Cup Will Outshine Blue Jays’ Run
Canadian men’s soccer coach Jesse Marsch expressed optimism that the upcoming World Cup will capture the nation’s excitement even more than the recent playoff performance of the Toronto Blue Jays. Speaking during a virtual press conference, Marsch reflected on the enthusiasm generated by the Blue Jays’ playoff run and how it could translate into support for soccer in Canada.
Marsch, currently based in Italy, noted the dedication of Canadian fans, mentioning his own late-night viewings of the Blue Jays’ games. “Since I’ve been living in Europe, I’ve only gotten up in the middle of the night to watch football, soccer matches — until the World Series this year,” he stated. His experience aligns with many Canadians who rallied behind the baseball team during their playoff journey.
Building Anticipation for the World Cup
The coach emphasized the significance of the Blue Jays’ success, suggesting it offered Canadians a taste of what is possible in sports. “People coming alive for the Blue Jays,” he remarked, highlighting the collective pride that emerged during their playoff run.
Marsch is confident that the atmosphere surrounding the World Cup, set to take place in Canada, will surpass that of any other sporting event. “I believe that the World Cup at home, in Canada, will be even bigger,” he asserted. He described the positive representation of the Blue Jays, conveying that their competitive spirit resonated with fans.
The coach anticipates that the national soccer team will embody a similar fervor. “I can tell you right now that is exactly what this national team will be about. And it will electrify this country,” he said. Marsch’s enthusiasm reflects a broader movement within Canadian sports, urging fans to engage with soccer as the team prepares for the global stage.
Excitement Builds Ahead of International Match
The Canadian team, currently ranked 28th in the world, will showcase their skills in front of local supporters when they face Ecuador, ranked 23rd, on November 13, 2025, at BMO Field in Toronto. This match serves as a precursor to the World Cup and a chance for fans to rally behind their team.
Marsch encouraged those yet to embrace this movement, emphasizing that now is the time to join in the excitement. “If you’re not on board yet and if you’re not feeling the excitement yet, it’s time. It’s time to get on board,” he declared. His remarks underscore the growing anticipation for what could be a historic chapter for soccer in Canada.
