Jose Ramirez Close to Finalizing Seven-Year Deal with Guardians
José Ramírez is on the verge of solidifying his future with the Cleveland Guardians. The talented third baseman is nearing a restructured seven-year contract valued at $175 million, according to a report by Zack Meisel of The Athletic. This new agreement will extend his commitment to the Guardians by four additional years and includes approximately $70 million in deferred payments.
The 33-year-old has proven to be a formidable player, making the All-Star team and finishing in the top 10 of the American League MVP voting for the past five seasons. Notably, Ramírez ranked third in MVP voting last season, demonstrating his consistent performance. He achieved a slash line of .283/.360/.503, alongside impressive statistics that included 30 home runs, 85 RBIs, and a career-high 44 stolen bases.
Career Highlights and Impact
Ramírez has spent his entire Major League Baseball career with the Guardians, having made his debut in 2013. Throughout his time with the club, he has been selected to seven All-Star teams and has received six Silver Slugger awards. Over the course of 1,609 games, he has hit 285 home runs and collected 949 RBIs, with a career slash line of .279/.353/.504 that closely mirrors last season’s performance.
In addition to his impressive individual accolades, Ramírez was a key member of the Guardians team that reached the 2016 World Series, where they faced off against the Chicago Cubs in a thrilling seven-game series. Since then, he has participated in six other post-season campaigns, including last season when the Guardians secured the American League Central title.
As the Guardians look to the future, securing Ramírez is a significant step in maintaining their competitive edge. His talent and leadership on the field make him an invaluable asset to the team as they prepare for upcoming seasons. The finalization of this deal will not only ensure Ramírez remains with the franchise through 2032 but also solidifies his legacy within the organization.
