Kimberley Dynamiters Set to Ignite KIJHL Season with Strong Roster

The Kimberley Dynamiters are gearing up for the 2025-26 Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) season, showcasing a strong roster and a renewed determination following last season’s near miss. After finishing with an impressive record of 32-9-3 and claiming the Eddie Mountain regular season championship, the team fell short in the Kootenay Conference championship against the Grand Forks Border Bruins, losing in five games.
Head coach and general manager Derek Stuart expressed optimism about the team’s prospects this season. “We have a lot of good returning players, and the rookies have seemed to fit right in and are starting to figure out how things work,” he said. Stuart highlighted the team’s work ethic and puck movement as key strengths heading into the new season.
Returning Players and New Additions
The Dynamiters welcome back several key players who contributed significantly last season. Notable returnees include forwards Luke Davies, who recorded 56 points last season, and Danik Reeves, with 45 points. Others like Nolan Kelly, Nate Tillmanns, and Nate Murdoch add depth to the team’s offensive lineup. On defense, players such as Jackson Murphy and Nathan Scott will be crucial for the team’s defensive strategies.
The Dynamiters have also made strategic acquisitions to enhance their roster. Forward Maguire Nicholson joins from the Sicamous Eagles, where he tallied 29 points last season. Additionally, Ethan Beattie, a goaltender signed from the Kenora Islands, brings experience to the crease with an impressive save percentage from his previous season.
The team is also incorporating a promising group of rookies, including Matthew Lenz, who previously played for the St. Albert Raiders U18 AAA, and Jake Murdoch, who had an impressive stint with the U18 East Kootenay Avalanche.
Team Aspirations and Expectations
The returning players are driven by the disappointment of last season’s playoff exit. “We felt like we probably deserved a better fate in that series, especially near the end,” Stuart remarked. He believes that the team has gained valuable experience from their playoff run and is determined to progress further this season.
Stuart has high expectations for several veterans, including Davies, Reeves, and Tillmanns, noting that Kelly has shown significant improvement early in the season. The depth on defense is also a point of excitement for Stuart, as he noted, “We have six returning defencemen, and all of them look better than they did at the end of last year.”
As the season unfolds, the Kimberley Dynamiters are poised to make a strong impact in the KIJHL, driven by a mix of experienced veterans and eager newcomers. The team aims not only to reclaim their championship title but also to advance to the finals, fulfilling their aspirations and expectations for the upcoming season.
