Kyler Murray to Miss Sunday’s Game; Jacoby Brissett to Start

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is set to miss the game against the Indianapolis Colts on October 8, 2023, due to a foot injury sustained in the previous week’s match against the Tennessee Titans. The decision comes from a source who informed ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler about Murray’s condition. In his absence, veteran backup Jacoby Brissett will take the starting position at Lucas Oil Stadium, where he previously played from 2017 to 2020.
Murray, who was limited to practice only on Friday, suffered the injury during a challenging game against the Titans. This season, he has been a crucial player for the Cardinals, and his absence will be felt significantly.
Brissett, who has started 53 games over his ten-year career, holds a record of 19 wins and 34 losses, alongside 53 career touchdowns. His last start occurred in Week 5 of the previous season while with the New England Patriots. Despite a promising start to the season with a win in the opener, Brissett’s team lost four consecutive games, resulting in his benching.
Throughout the week, Brissett’s teammates expressed confidence in his ability to lead the team as starting quarterback. Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. emphasized his trust in Brissett, stating, “I have full trust in Jacoby. I think the biggest thing, he’s been such a good leader and mentor for me since he got here.”
Harrison and Brissett have been collaborating after practices to enhance Brissett’s readiness. Their relationship has grown as they spent extra time together, a situation that has helped strengthen team dynamics.
Tight end Trey McBride also voiced his support for Brissett, commenting, “I think Jacoby’s, obviously, he’s played a long time in this league. He’s played for a lot of different teams.” McBride noted Brissett’s extensive experience and ability to command the huddle, which he believes will contribute positively to the team’s performance.
As the Cardinals prepare for their matchup against the Colts, the focus will be on Brissett’s ability to adapt and perform under pressure. With a strong foundation of support from his teammates and considerable experience, fans will be watching closely to see how he leads the team in this pivotal game.
