Logan Mailloux Struggles Early in St. Louis Season with Limited Playtime
Logan Mailloux is facing challenges at the start of the season with the St. Louis Blues, having logged just 8:18 of playing time in a recent game against the Calgary Flames. Despite a promising training camp, the former Montreal Canadiens defenseman has struggled to make an impact on the ice, posting a -2 rating in his first game and receiving limited minutes in subsequent matches.
Coach Jim Montgomery benched Mailloux for several minutes during the game, highlighting concerns about his defensive performance. Advanced statistics indicate that Mailloux has not contributed positively to the Blues’ efforts, raising questions about his readiness for the NHL. As a young player, he is known for his offensive abilities, including a strong shot and good vision on the power play, but his defensive skills have not yet reached the level needed at this stage.
The transition to the professional level can be demanding, particularly for defensemen with offensive styles. Mailloux’s situation echoes the observations of analysts, suggesting that he may need time to adapt and improve his defensive game. Some commentators have speculated that if his performance does not improve, he may find himself playing in the AHL by Christmas.
In contrast, Zachary Bolduc, the player acquired by the Montreal Canadiens in the trade that sent Mailloux to St. Louis, has started the season on a high note. Bolduc has scored in his first three games, positioning himself as the Canadiens’ second-highest scorer with four points in that span. His rapid adaptation underscores the immediate benefits of the trade for the Canadiens, as General Manager Kent Hughes sought to bolster the team’s lineup.
As the season progresses, the Blues will need Mailloux to grow into his role, while Canadiens fans are likely to keep a close eye on Bolduc’s performance. Early results suggest that the Canadiens are reaping the rewards of the transaction, with Bolduc proving to be a valuable asset in the current lineup.
In a separate note from the NHL, Tyler Myers received a $2,500 fine for slashing Connor McDavid, highlighting the ongoing disciplinary actions within the league.
As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on Mailloux and Bolduc, as their respective performances could be pivotal for their teams’ success. The next few weeks will be crucial for Mailloux to turn around his early struggles and find his footing in the NHL.
