Marcedes Lewis Aims for NFL Milestone as Oldest Tight End
Marcedes Lewis, at 41 years old, is poised to make history as the oldest tight end to participate in an NFL game. On Sunday, he was active for the Denver Broncos during their matchup against the Houston Texans, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career.
If Lewis takes the field, he will not only secure the title of the oldest tight end in NFL history but also become the oldest player to ever appear in a game for the Broncos. He currently stands as the second-oldest active player in the league, following Aaron Rodgers, who will celebrate his 42nd birthday in December.
Lewis’s Journey to the Broncos
Lewis joined the Broncos’ practice squad on October 18, 2023, and was promoted to the active roster just days later, on October 21, 2023. His elevation comes at a crucial time for the Broncos, who are facing challenges in their tight end position. With Lucas Krull on injured reserve due to a foot injury and Nate Adkins sidelined with a knee injury following Denver’s recent 44-24 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, Lewis’s experience and skills are particularly valuable.
Lewis’s long-standing reputation as one of the best blocking tight ends in the NFL adds to his significance on the roster. His versatility has allowed him to fill various roles, including lining up at fullback and H-back, which enhances the Broncos’ offensive strategies.
A Look Back at Lewis’s Career
Drafted as the 28th overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2006, Lewis has enjoyed a remarkable career spanning multiple teams. He spent 12 seasons with the Jaguars, followed by five years with the Green Bay Packers and two seasons with the Chicago Bears, where he participated in every game last season.
Lewis’s career has been marked by resilience and dedication, giving him the opportunity to not only extend his playing career but also to contribute significantly to the teams he has played for. As he prepares to step onto the field against the Texans, the football community watches closely, eager to witness this historic moment.
Should he play, Lewis will not only solidify his place in NFL history but will also inspire many athletes, demonstrating that age need not define one’s ability to compete at the highest level.
