Milford/Cissna Park Aims for Continued Success in 2025 I8FA Season

Milford/Cissna Park is gearing up for the 2025 Illinois 8-Man Football Association (I8FA) season with ambitions to uphold its winning tradition. Under the guidance of veteran head coach Clint Schwartz, now in his 14th season, the team looks to build on a solid 2024 record of 6-4 and continue its legacy as a force in 8-man football, having previously claimed the title of inaugural I8FA champions in 2018.

The transition to 8-man football has proven successful for the team, which boasts an impressive overall record of 52-17 since the switch. Coach Schwartz emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards for the upcoming season. “Since we made that transition to 8-man football, things have gone really well for our kids, and it’s really brought that love of football back for our community and our players,” he stated. He added, “The goal is to make the playoffs and hopefully be able to make a run when late October and early November rolls around.”

A significant aspect of Milford/Cissna Park’s strategy is the return of key players from last season. Central to the team’s success will be senior quarterback Dierks Neukomm, who nearly set a school record for single-season passing yards last year, finishing just 60 yards short. Coach Schwartz praised Neukomm’s development as a leader, noting his improved vocal presence on the field.

Another crucial component of the offense will be Jaden Souders, the starting center who has been with the team for three years. Schwartz expressed confidence in Souders’ ability to ensure smooth exchanges during plays, which is vital for the team’s effectiveness.

On the defensive side, senior linebacker and running back Mario Martinez returns with added strength, now weighing 20 pounds more than last season while maintaining his agility. He will be joined by Coy Lucht, also a senior, who has emerged as a vocal leader on defense through both his words and his physical style of play.

The roster also includes seniors stepping into starting roles this season after years of preparation. Jream Renteria will take on the tight end position, while Ben King will start at guard on the offensive line. The coaching staff is optimistic about the potential contributions of junior Brayden Forbes, who is expected to make an impact defensively, along with fellow juniors Jace Comstock and Skylar Estay, who will reinforce the receiving corps.

As the team prepares to open its season, the Milford/Cissna Park community remains excited about the prospects of another successful campaign. With a strong returning roster and a dedicated coaching staff, the Bearcats are set to continue their legacy in 8-man football.
