Raptors Await Poeltl’s Return; Quickley a Game-Time Decision
The Toronto Raptors are set to face the Indiana Pacers without their starting center, Jakob Poeltl, who remains sidelined due to a back injury. Head coach Darko Rajakovic confirmed on Sunday that Poeltl is “very close” to making a return after being out for nearly 26 games. His absence has been a significant blow to the Raptors as they look to improve their performance.
Poeltl, 30, has not played since December 21, 2023, when he re-aggravated his back injury in a game against the Brooklyn Nets, managing only seven minutes on the court. This season, he has averaged 9.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks per game, which are his lowest statistics since his rookie year. His playing time has also been limited to just 25.3 minutes per contest. Poeltl signed a four-year, $84 million contract extension that will take effect next season, underscoring the Raptors’ commitment to him as a key player.
In addition to Poeltl’s status, guard Immanuel Quickley is a game-time decision for the Raptors’ upcoming matinee against the Pacers. Quickley sprained his ankle during practice and his availability will be crucial. The 26-year-old has been instrumental for the Raptors this season, contributing an average of 17.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.3 steals across 50 games. Quickley has only missed three games this season due to injury, highlighting his reliability on the court.
As the Raptors prepare for this critical matchup, they will also see the debut of Trayce Jackson-Davis, who was acquired just before the trade deadline. Jackson-Davis is expected to bring additional depth to the roster.
Fans can catch the game on Sportsnet ONE and Sportsnet+ at 15:00 ET / 12:00 PT. The contest against the Pacers represents an opportunity for the Raptors to gain momentum as they navigate the season without two of their key players.
