Rochelle Teams Shine at Interstate 8 Conference Sports Events
Rochelle High School’s athletic teams showcased impressive performances at the recent Interstate 8 Conference events, with the boys’ golf team securing second place and the girls’ golf team finishing fifth. The meets were held on September 22 and 23, 2023, at Kishwaukee Country Club and Sycamore Golf Club, respectively.
In the boys’ golf competition, Rochelle achieved a team score of 304, trailing only Ottawa, which finished first with a score of 290. Key individual performances included Connor Lewis and Ian Metzger, who each shot a remarkable 70, tying for second place overall. Additionally, Alex Dyer contributed with a score of 76, earning a tie for ninth place, while Owen Carmichael carded an 88.
The girls’ golf team faced a challenging day, finishing fifth with a team score of 88 over par. Leading the team was Abigail Smith, who recorded a low round of 104, placing ninth individually. Alexa Undesser completed the team’s efforts with a score of 126.
Cross Country Highlights
In cross country, Rochelle’s boys team triumphed at the European-Style Cross Country Invite held on September 18, 2023. The team claimed first place for the second consecutive year, thanks to a standout performance from sophomore Tyler Johnson, who finished first with a time of 17:17.91. Also finishing strong were freshman Esam Farraj, who placed fourth with 18:50.72, and sophomore Gregory Smith, who secured fifth place with a time of 19:27.44.
The girls’ cross country team placed fourth out of five teams, led by senior Annaliese Koziol, who achieved a fifth-place finish with a time of 23:14.17.
Volleyball and Tennis Results
In volleyball action, Rochelle faced Morris on September 22, suffering a defeat with set scores of 25-18 and 25-22. Despite the loss, Audyn Kemp stood out with five kills, while Jaydin Dickey contributed with eight assists, two kills, and three digs. Emori Mickley had a solid defensive performance, recording seven digs.
In a subsequent match against Kaneland, Rochelle bounced back to secure a thrilling victory, winning two sets to one, with scores of 25-17, 17-25, and 25-23. Jillian Bruns was instrumental in the win, leading the team with twelve kills and eight digs, while Kemp added six kills and Mickley excelled with sixteen digs.
Unfortunately, Rochelle’s girls’ tennis team faced a tough match on September 17, losing to Sterling with a score of 5-0, failing to secure any points on the road.
These recent performances highlight the competitive spirit and talent within Rochelle High School’s athletic programs as they continue to strive for excellence in the Interstate 8 Conference.
