Sarah Nurse Shines with Two Goals in Goldeneyes’ 5-0 Victory
The Vancouver Goldeneyes celebrated a resounding 5-0 victory over the Toronto Sceptres on March 1, 2026, marking their first home win in the Premier Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) season. Forward Sarah Nurse was instrumental in the win, scoring two goals and showcasing her skill after returning from an eight-week injury absence. Tereza Vanisova also contributed with a goal and an assist, as the Goldeneyes dominated the match at the Pacific Coliseum.
The game turned decisively in the second period, with Vancouver netting three goals to pull ahead. Izzy Daniel opened the scoring early in the second, executing a well-timed give-and-go with Jenn Gardner. After a save by Sceptres’ goaltender Elaine Chuli, the puck rebounded off Daniel for her third goal of the season. Just moments later, at 13:31, Vanisova scored her first goal of the season with a wraparound shot, extending the lead to 2-0. Nurse quickly followed with a powerful shot from the faceoff circle, catching Chuli off guard.
The Goldeneyes continued to apply pressure, thrilling the crowd of 14,006 with dynamic play. Nurse’s performance was especially notable, as she scored her third goal in just two games since her return. She had previously missed significant time due to an arm injury sustained at the start of the season.
Nurse’s first goal of the night came as she fired a hard shot past Chuli in the third period, further solidifying her impact on the game. This match was a rematch of the Sceptres’ previous 2-1 overtime victory over the Goldeneyes just days earlier.
Key Highlights from the Game
Several key moments defined the match, including a standout play by goaltender Kristen Campbell, who stopped 24 shots to secure her first shutout of the season against her former team. Just after Daniel’s goal, Campbell made a crucial save on a breakaway attempt by Toronto’s Daryl Watts, demonstrating her resilience and skill.
The Goldeneyes welcomed new player Anna Meixner, who made an immediate impact by earning an assist in her first game since joining the team from Ottawa. This victory also marked Vancouver’s first home game since a December 20 loss to Montreal, providing a much-needed morale boost ahead of the Olympic break.
Looking Ahead
The Goldeneyes will travel to Denver next to face the Seattle Torrent on Sunday as part of the Takeover Tour. Meanwhile, the Sceptres, who have struggled with six losses in their last seven games, will visit the Montreal Victoire on Wednesday, seeking to turn their season around.
As the teams prepare for their upcoming matches, the Goldeneyes’ strong performance against the Sceptres serves as a reminder of their potential as they move forward in the season. With Nurse leading the charge, Vancouver fans are hopeful for more victories in the weeks to come.
