Sardis Falcon Linebacker Harrison Rydell Shines in NFL Award
A high school football player from Chilliwack, British Columbia, has gained significant recognition from the National Football League (NFL) for his remarkable athletic skills. Harrison Rydell, a linebacker for the Sardis Falcons, was featured in the NFL’s Way to Play segment after making an impressive one-handed interception during a game. His coach, Sukh Parmar, submitted a highlight reel showcasing this exceptional play, which ultimately earned Rydell the Week 7 NFL Canada Way to Play Award.
The award recognizes one standout play from Canadian high school football each week of the NFL season. Rydell’s interception was highlighted during a segment on TSN and is still available for viewing on their website. The segment aired on October 19, 2023, and has drawn attention for its celebration of Canadian talent in football.
In the analysis of the play, TSN personality Kara Wagland praised Rydell, stating, “That’s a beautiful play. He reads the QB perfectly. He steps in front of the receiver to make the one-handed interception.” Fellow analyst Davis Sanchez added, “I see ya buddy, I see ya,” further emphasizing the skill displayed by the young athlete.
As part of the recognition, Sardis Secondary will receive a grant of $3,000 for football equipment, administered by Football Canada. This initiative aims to invest in high school and CEGEP tackle football programs across Canada, while promoting sound playing techniques among young athletes.
The NFL Canada Way to Play Award encourages players and their supporters to submit videos that showcase proper techniques in tackling, blocking, footwork, discipline, and game awareness. The recognition of Rydell’s play is part of a broader effort to highlight Canadian football talent. Just last month, Caleb Mills from the Robert Bateman Timberwolves was also featured in the program for his outstanding performance.
Rydell’s achievement not only puts him in the spotlight but also acts as an inspiration for aspiring football players in Canada. As the NFL continues to showcase talent from various regions, it reinforces the importance of skill development and proper technique in the game of football.
