Tampa Bay Lightning Sign Forward Scott Sabourin to Contract
The Tampa Bay Lightning have secured forward Scott Sabourin by signing him to a one-year, two-way contract, as announced by the team on Sunday. This move adds depth to the Lightning’s roster, bringing aboard a player with a diverse experience in both the NHL and AHL.
Sabourin, 32, spent the majority of the 2022-2023 season with the San Jose Barracuda, the AHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks. During his 68 appearances, he recorded 10 goals and 25 points while serving as an alternate captain. His notable performance in the AHL demonstrates his ability to contribute significantly at a competitive level.
Although Sabourin made only one NHL appearance with the Sharks last season, he logged 10:27 of ice time, finishing with no points and a minus-two rating. Over his career, he has played a total of 47 NHL games across five seasons, having stints with the Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Sharks. Throughout these games, he has accumulated two goals and eight points, with a career minus-ten rating.
Extensive AHL Experience
A native of Orleans, Ontario, Sabourin has a wealth of experience in the AHL, with 532 appearances across various teams, including the Barracuda, Belleville Senators, Toronto Marlies, and others. Over these games, he has scored 88 goals and recorded 181 points, showcasing his offensive capabilities in the minor leagues.
Sabourin’s journey to the NHL began when he went undrafted, eventually signing a three-year, entry-level contract with the Los Angeles Kings in 2013. He made his NHL debut in 2019 with the Senators, marking the occasion by scoring his first goal on his very first shot against the Maple Leafs.
This signing reflects the Lightning’s commitment to enhancing their roster with experienced players who can contribute both in the NHL and AHL. As Sabourin joins the team, fans will be eager to see how his experience and skills translate to the ice in Tampa Bay.
