Trailer Worth $25K Stolen from Langford’s Jordie Lunn Bike Park

A trailer essential for Cycling BC events was stolen from Jordie Lunn Bike Park in Langford, British Columbia, during the weekend of October 6, 2023. The Community Events Trailer, valued between $20,000 and $25,000, is crucial for the organization’s ability to run races and community activities across Vancouver Island.
The deep red, enclosed cargo trailer, measuring approximately 12 feet long and 7 feet high, features a Continental Cargo logo. It contained vital equipment such as fencing, tents, signage, traffic signs, vests, tables, chairs, and archways, all necessary for transforming an area into a competitive race course. The absence of the trailer is a significant blow to local cycling events, as it plays an essential role in maintaining their financial viability.
Community Response and Support
Jon Watkin, CEO and Executive Director of Panache Cycling Sports, expressed his disappointment over the theft. “It’s a huge letdown, but hopefully word will get out and we can get this back,” he stated. He emphasized the trailer’s unique size and color, making it easily identifiable should it resurface.
Christine Reid, Executive Director of Cycling BC, described the theft as a considerable setback for the organization. “This has been a big hole that we’re looking to fill, either from finding the trailer, recovering the trailer, or being able to quickly pull together some more resources,” she noted. Reid highlighted that the time spent on filing police reports and insurance claims diverts attention from important preparatory work for the upcoming events.
The cycling community in Langford has rallied in response to the situation. Reid mentioned that there has been an outpouring of support on social media, with many shares and reposts of Cycling BC’s posts regarding the theft. Event organizers have even offered to donate equipment to help bridge the gap for forthcoming races.
Investigation Underway
Cycling BC is collaborating with the City of Langford to temporarily relocate another trailer into their park facility to mitigate the impact of the theft. The West Shore RCMP has acknowledged the seriousness of the situation due to the trailer’s significant value and the equipment it contained.
While no bicycles were stored inside the trailer, the facility is equipped with cameras, though no footage has captured the theft. The West Shore RCMP stated, “As this is an ongoing investigation, I’m not able to share any details at this time.” They urge anyone with information about the stolen trailer or its contents to contact the Langford RCMP, referencing file number WS 2025-19987 or to reach out directly to Cycling BC.
The theft of the trailer not only disrupts the operational capacity of Cycling BC but also highlights the vulnerability of community resources that support local sports events.
