The Vancouver Whitecaps secured their place in the Canadian Championship final for the fourth consecutive year, defeating Forge FC of Hamilton 4-0 in the second leg of their semifinal matchup. The aggregate score from the two-legged series finished at 6-2 after the teams played to a 2-2 draw on August 13.

Vancouver’s victory on September 16, 2025, showcased their dominance, with midfielder Sebastian Berhalter converting a penalty kick and contributing an assist. Other goals came from Tristan Blackmon, J.C. Ngando, and Jayden Nelson. Goalkeeper Isaac Boehmer maintained a clean sheet with a single save.

The Whitecaps controlled the match from the outset, holding 57 percent of possession and outshooting Forge FC 23 to 6, with a significant 9 to 1 advantage in shots on target. The other semifinal features Atletico Ottawa and Vancouver FC, concluding on Thursday, with Vancouver holding a 3-1 lead after the first leg.

Key Moments in the Match

Vancouver wasted no time establishing their offensive presence, scoring early in the seventh minute. Berhalter delivered a corner kick that Blackmon headed into the net for his fifth goal of the season across all competitions. Ngando extended the lead in the 29th minute, firing a shot from the edge of the penalty area that struck the post before going in.

Forge FC had a promising opportunity to respond in the 33rd minute when forward Nana Ampomah took a shot from the side of the penalty area, but Boehmer was well-positioned to make the save. The second half saw Vancouver continue to dominate, capitalizing on a penalty kick awarded in the 49th minute when Blackmon was fouled in the box. Berhalter took the penalty and confidently converted, increasing the score to 3-0.

Late in the match, Vancouver faced a setback as Blackmon appeared to suffer a knee injury while contesting a loose ball. Trainers attended to him before he was substituted for Mathias Laborda. Blackmon left the field without putting weight on his right leg, raising concerns about his condition.

Despite the injury, Vancouver added to their lead shortly after. Midfielder Rayan Elloumi delivered a precise pass across the six-yard box, allowing Nelson to tap in the final goal, bringing the score to 4-0 in the 85th minute.

Looking Ahead

The Whitecaps have an impressive record of 15 wins, 7 losses, and 6 draws in Major League Soccer play. Forge FC currently leads the Canadian Premier League standings with a record of 14 wins, 2 losses, and 7 draws.

Vancouver will host the final at B.C. Place on October 1, 2025. Notably, Toronto FC is the only club to have won the Canadian Championship four times in a row, achieving this from 2009 to 2012. The competition has evolved significantly since its inception, expanding from three teams until 2011 to include 15 teams across six leagues in the current iteration.

An announced crowd of 10,752 attended the match at B.C. Place, highlighting the growing support for the Whitecaps as they aim for another championship title.

Forge FC will return to CPL action on Sunday against Atletico Ottawa, while the Whitecaps shift their focus back to MLS play on Saturday with a match against Sporting Kansas City.
