Aivida’s AI Scribe “Scribble” Enhances Patient Care Efficiency

Aivida, a startup based in Manitoba, has introduced an innovative solution called Scribble, an artificial intelligence scribe designed to help physicians dedicate more time to patient care. This new tool aims to alleviate the burden of paperwork that often hinders healthcare professionals, enabling them to focus on what truly matters: their patients.
With Scribble, healthcare providers can automate clinical documentation processes. The AI scribe transcribes conversations between doctors and patients, generating essential clinical notes, including SOAP notes, prescriptions, and billing codes. According to Marcus Wiens, Head of Innovation at Aivida, the implementation of this technology has shown promising results. “In a recent Canadian clinical simulation study, Scribble improved physician efficiency by 23%,” he noted. This improvement allows doctors to increase their patient load from an average of 10 to 12 per day while maintaining a high standard of care.
Addressing Burnout and Administrative Strain
The driving force behind Aivida’s mission is to address inefficiencies within the healthcare system. Wiens emphasized that the goal is not merely to increase the number of patients seen but also to combat physician burnout. By automating documentation tasks, Aivida’s technology provides doctors with the mental space needed to deliver quality care. “We’re giving them breathing room,” Wiens explained.
The Aivida team, though small, is comprised of talented individuals with significant expertise in their respective fields. Alongside Wiens, key team members include Sajjad Heydari, a PhD candidate from the University of Manitoba, and Aditya Sharma, a backend developer. Together, they meet regularly to strategize and develop new ideas, ensuring that their products meet the needs of healthcare providers effectively.
Their latest offering, Miiya, is a real-time AI medical consultant that provides accurate recommendations to doctors without generating misleading information—a common issue known as AI “hallucinations.” Wiens stated, “We’ve built a medical-grade system that handles medical knowledge and makes non-hallucinatory recommendations to doctors in real-time.” This innovation allows physicians to make informed decisions quickly, reducing the need for patient rebookings.
Support and Growth Through Strategic Partnerships
Aivida’s advancements have been supported by the ElevateIP Program, a federal initiative aimed at helping startups protect their intellectual property. In the Prairies, this program is facilitated by North Forge, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering innovation among entrepreneurs. Wiens highlighted the importance of this program in their journey: “ElevateIP provided us with a safe space to operate and try new things. It allowed us to protect our IP early on, which gave us the freedom to take calculated risks.”
Through ElevateIP, Aivida has successfully secured non-disclosure agreements, trademarks, and the necessary legal frameworks to safeguard its growing technological portfolio. Wiens remarked on the positive experience, stating, “The process has been fantastic. Our partner was extremely detail-oriented and helped us get all of our trademarks in order. It’s set us up for success.”
As Aivida’s technology gains traction with telehealth companies across Canada, the organization is keen to expand its reach within Manitoba. “We’d love to work with more doctors and clinics, especially locally,” Wiens expressed. He encourages local physicians to explore how Aivida’s solutions can enhance their practice. Interested clinics and physicians can visit scribblehealth.com for more information on the AI scribe, or aivida.com to learn about Aivida’s complete range of services. Direct inquiries for demos can be sent to Wiens at [email protected].
Aivida’s commitment to improving patient care through innovative technology marks a significant step in addressing the challenges faced by healthcare providers. As the demand for efficient healthcare solutions continues to grow, Aivida stands poised to make a meaningful impact in the industry.
