Android Auto 15.2 Update Disrupts Quick Controls for Users

The recent update to Android Auto, version 15.2, has caused significant issues for users by disrupting the functionality of the Quick Controls feature. Many individuals have taken to online forums to express their frustration, noting that the update has rendered one of the application’s most useful tools largely unusable. Previously efficient widgets for multitasking are now experiencing malfunctions, raising concerns about the overall user experience.
Quick Controls Malfunction on Vertical Dashboards
For years, Quick Controls have been a staple of Android Auto, allowing users to manage media playback and navigation without needing to switch between applications. Following the rollout of version 15.2, numerous reports indicate that this feature no longer operates as intended, particularly on vertically oriented dashboard screens. Users have described the feature as prone to crashing, which significantly hampers usability.
In prior versions, activating Quick Controls on vertical setups required moving the taskbar to the bottom of the screen, but the latest update has resulted in the taskbar becoming locked on the side, with activation attempts yielding no response. This change has frustrated many users, some of whom have described the situation as “annoying” and “unusable.”
Horizontal Screen Users Remain Unaffected
Fortunately, users with horizontal screen setups are not facing the same issues. The malfunction appears to be confined to vertical orientations. There is ongoing debate among users regarding whether this disruption is a technical bug or part of a planned phase-out of the feature. However, given that the issue only affects specific screen layouts, many believe it is more likely a technical oversight rather than an intentional change.
As of now, Google has not publicly acknowledged the problem, which adds to user dissatisfaction. There has been no confirmation of a fix or patch on the horizon, leaving affected users in a state of uncertainty. The only recourse available to them at this time is to wait for a resolution from the tech giant.
The Android Auto community continues to monitor the situation closely, hoping for a swift remedy to restore the functionality of Quick Controls. As this issue develops, users will be eager for updates from Google regarding potential fixes or improvements to the application.
