AT&T Extends Deadline for $177 Million Data Breach Settlement
AT&T has extended the deadline for filing claims related to its substantial data breach settlement, offering affected consumers additional time to seek compensation. Individuals impacted by the breaches now have until December 18, 2025 to submit their claims for a share of the $177 million class-action settlement, which addresses incidents that exposed data from more than 73 million current and former customers.
The settlement arises from two significant breaches disclosed by AT&T in 2024, which compromised sensitive customer information, including names, addresses, and in some cases, Social Security numbers. While AT&T has denied any wrongdoing, the company agreed to the settlement in order to resolve multiple lawsuits stemming from these incidents.
Details of the Settlement and Claim Process
Under the terms of the settlement, customers affected by the March 2024 breach can claim up to $5,000 for verified financial losses. Those impacted by the July 2024 breach may receive up to $2,500. Importantly, consumers affected by both breaches could be eligible for a total payout of up to $7,500.
For those wishing to file a claim, the process is straightforward. Claimants can visit the official settlement website at telecomdatasettlement.com. They will need to provide their Class Member ID or other identifying information related to their AT&T account. Claims can be submitted online or via mail. Individuals with receipts, bank statements, or other documentation of out-of-pocket losses should attach these to their claims to maximize their potential payouts.
Consumers without supporting documentation may still qualify for a smaller, automatic payment once the distribution of funds occurs. The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for December 3, 2025, in the District Court for the Northern District of Texas. AT&T intends to begin dispersing settlement payments in early 2026, following court approval.
Given the scale of the breaches and the number of consumers affected, this settlement stands out as one of the largest of its kind in recent history. The extended deadline allows millions of customers the opportunity to verify their eligibility and secure compensation for their losses.
