Residents of Victoria, British Columbia, are being asked to share their opinions on the potential introduction of a direct bus service from downtown Victoria to the Victoria Airport (YYJ). This initiative, proposed by BC Transit, aims to enhance transportation options for travelers heading to and from the airport, which is a key gateway for flights to the mainland.

The airport, along with the nearby ferry terminal, plays an essential role in connecting Vancouver Island with other regions. Currently, Wilson’s Transportation operates a private bus service between downtown Victoria and the ferry terminal, indicating a demand for improved public transportation in the area.

To gather community input, BC Transit has launched an online survey available from February 3 to 15, 2026. The survey includes 37 questions designed to explore various options such as potential routes, service times, and whether the airport service should be integrated into an existing bus route.

Community Engagement Opportunities

In addition to the online survey, BC Transit is hosting two in-person consultation sessions. The first will take place on February 11 at Save-On-Foods, located at 2345 Beacon Avenue in Sidney, from 1 PM to 4 PM. The second session is scheduled for February 12 at the Walmart in Uptown Shopping Centre, 3460 Saanich Road, Saanich, from 4 PM to 7 PM. These sessions will provide an opportunity for residents to ask questions and learn more about the proposed changes.

BC Transit outlines several potential benefits of adding a direct route to the airport. The service could be implemented as early as September 2026, leveraging optimization efforts to keep costs close to neutral. This direct route would not only connect downtown Victoria and YYJ more efficiently but also improve evening and weekend service frequency, addressing a gap in current transportation options.

As the consultation period progresses, BC Transit encourages residents to participate in shaping the future of public transport in the region. The responses collected will be crucial in determining the feasibility and design of the proposed bus service to Victoria Airport.
