BixeLab Unveils New Facility and Strategic Contracts for Growth

BixeLab has announced the opening of a new state-of-the-art facility, alongside the signing of a multi-year contract with the New Zealand government aimed at enhancing testing and assurance services. This development was highlighted during a hybrid event where the company showcased its expanded capabilities and introduced its new Chief Technology Officer, who joined the team in July.

During the event, CEO Dunstone emphasized the importance of BixeLab’s comprehensive range of testing services. These include biometric liveness detection, presentation attack detection (PAD), and document authenticity checks. BixeLab has established itself as a leader in bias evaluations, being the first laboratory globally to conduct such assessments in compliance with international standards. The lab adheres to protocols set by organizations such as NIST’s NVLAP and the FIDO Alliance.

Enhancing Testing Capabilities

The newly unveiled facility significantly increases BixeLab’s testing capacity, allowing for more mobile devices to be tested simultaneously. The lab now offers advanced deepfake testing and is equipped to replicate various environmental conditions, which enhances its ability to conduct thorough evaluations. According to the presentation, the new site also features robotic testing capabilities that improve control and efficiency during assessments.

Dunstone announced the recent agreement with the New Zealand government, which follows earlier successful testing projects conducted by BixeLab for the country. The lab’s reputation extends beyond New Zealand, with collaborations involving international organizations such as the World Bank and UNHCR.

In an effort to bolster educational outreach, an unnamed national government is scheduled to visit BixeLab next week to learn about the company’s testing methodologies. This reflects BixeLab’s commitment to sharing knowledge and best practices in the field of biometric testing.

Future Projects and Innovations

BixeLab is set to release a forthcoming report on the application of the OFIQ biometric quality standard within airport environments, which Dunstone anticipates will be a pioneering document in the industry. The company is also in the process of developing an open-source digital government model to demonstrate how technology can effectively serve public needs.

Looking ahead, BixeLab expects an increase in demand for testing services related to emerging challenges, particularly in the areas of bias and age assurance. Dunstone noted that as artificial intelligence (AI) continues to grow in influence, the need for reliable testing methods will also expand. He articulated the complexities involved, stating, “When an AI agent is out in the world doing things for you, how can it do things on your behalf? Ultimately, if you trace the chain back, that has to come back to some form of biometric anchor.”

In addition to its biometric expertise, BixeLab is positioned to evaluate non-biometric AI systems, such as surveillance technologies and large language models (LLMs). This versatility underscores BixeLab’s role at the forefront of technological advancements in the testing and assurance landscape.
