Discover the Best Back-to-School iPhone Deals Across Canada

As August unfolds, Canadian mobile carriers are preparing for the anticipated release of new iPhone models by slashing prices on older versions. This annual trend offers consumers a chance to save on popular devices as they gear up for the back-to-school season. Various deals are available across the country, making it an opportune time for buyers to consider their options.
Apple’s current pricing for its latest models reflects the company’s standard retail approach. The prices for the iPhones available directly from Apple are as follows: the iPhone 15 is priced at $999; the iPhone 15 Plus at $1,149; the iPhone 16e at $899; the iPhone 16 at $1,129; the iPhone 16 Plus at $1,279; the iPhone 16 Pro at $1,449; and the iPhone 16 Pro Max at $1,749. While Apple does not offer specific discounts for back-to-school purchases, it does have promotions for Macs and iPads.
For those seeking a more affordable route, carriers are offering competitive financing options. Most carriers have reduced the base model of the iPhone 16 to around $750 or less. It is essential to consider the monthly plan, as the overall cost can vary significantly depending on the service provider. Notably, plans that require returning the device after two years can lead to higher long-term expenses.
Mobile providers such as Bell, Rogers, and Telus are presenting decent offers, but their standard plans, which can cost around $80 per month, result in a two-year total of approximately $2,600. In contrast, opting for a flanker brand like Koodo, Fido, or Virgin Mobile can reduce costs significantly, with monthly plans starting at $55. This brings the total to around $2,070 over two years.
The Best Deal on iPhone 16
Currently, the most advantageous offer for the iPhone 16 is available through Freedom Mobile at Best Buy. The total cost over two years amounts to $1,537, which includes a $50 gift card for Best Buy and a complimentary Beats Pill speaker. This combination makes it a compelling choice for prospective buyers.
Purchasing the device from other carriers through Best Buy can provide similar gift card benefits, although these offers do not include the Beats speaker. For example, signing up with Telus offers a $200 gift card. However, factoring in the $80 monthly plan diminishes the appeal of this deal.
Alternatives can be found at The Mobile Shop, where customers can earn between 50,000 and 150,000 PC points, equivalent to $50-$150. Financing an iPhone directly from Apple at zero percent interest while selecting a low-cost plan from Freedom or Public Mobile presents another viable option. Although this may not yield as much savings as the Freedom deal, a $40 monthly plan would lead to a total cost of approximately $1,969 over two years, offering a significant saving of around $600 compared to the Big Three carriers.
Exploring Options for Older Models
For individuals looking to reduce expenses further, Apple is also selling refurbished iPhone 15 models for $849, while the iPhone 16e remains at $899. The additional battery life of the 16e may justify the price difference for many consumers; however, it lacks some advanced features such as a superior camera and the dynamic capabilities of the Dynamic Island.
Carriers also offer refurbished phones, although these may not be as thoroughly vetted as those directly from Apple. While these devices may be returns from customers utilizing device-return plans, they are often still in good condition due to the protective measures many users employ, such as cases and screen protectors. Companies like Fido, Koodo, and Virgin may provide better monthly plan rates compared to leading carriers.
As the back-to-school season approaches, consumers in Canada have a wealth of options for purchasing new or refurbished iPhones. With careful consideration of monthly plans and promotions, shoppers can maximize their savings and secure the best device to meet their needs.
