EA Announces Battlefield 6 File Size Options, Starting at 55GB

Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed that the upcoming release of Battlefield 6 could have a file size as low as 55GB. This announcement stands out in a gaming landscape where many titles now demand triple-digit storage space. Players will have the flexibility to choose which components of the game they wish to install, potentially allowing for a more tailored gaming experience.
On the pre-purchase page for Battlefield 6 on Steam, the minimum system requirements indicate a storage need of 55GB, while the recommended specifications call for 80GB. This significant difference has raised questions among prospective players, prompting EA to clarify the situation. An EA representative stated, “Yes, you will be able to pick and choose which components of the game you install. There will be a shared base package, and then you can separately choose to install the main components (i.e., singleplayer, multiplayer etc.).”
The base package is likely to be the 55GB option, while the 80GB requirement includes this base package along with all additional components. This modular installation approach is particularly beneficial for gamers with limited storage, allowing them to omit parts of the game they do not intend to play.
While the 80GB requirement may still seem substantial, it is comparatively modest when set against other recent AAA games. Titles such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Jedi: Survivor often demand over 100GB of storage, making Battlefield 6 a more accessible option for many players.
As attention shifts to gameplay, it’s important to note that while some players may opt for the single-player experience, they risk missing out on the multiplayer aspects that are considered the core of the franchise. The flexibility in installation could allow players to complete the campaign and then free up space to enjoy the multiplayer mode, which is anticipated to have a lengthy lifespan.
Currently, Battlefield 6 is available for pre-purchase on Steam for $69 for the standard edition, and $99 for the special Phantom Edition. The game is set to launch on October 10, 2023, with two open beta weekends scheduled for August 9-10 and August 14-17, 2023, allowing players an early glimpse of the game.
As anticipation builds for this release, EA’s decision to offer a flexible file size could set a new standard for how large-scale games are delivered and installed, catering to the diverse needs of players in an ever-evolving gaming environment.
