Ford Unveils 2026 Mustang RTR: A Drift-Ready EcoBoost Revolution
Ford has officially launched the highly anticipated 2026 Mustang RTR, a performance-oriented variant of the EcoBoost line, aimed at enhancing the driving experience for enthusiasts. Developed in collaboration with RTR Vehicles and drift expert Vaughn Gittin Jr., the RTR package incorporates advanced technologies and components designed specifically for precision handling and control.
Enhanced Performance Features
At the heart of the 2026 Mustang RTR is the robust 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine, delivering an impressive 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. Notably, this model features Ford’s innovative anti-lag system, originally inspired by the Ford GT. This system allows the turbocharger to maintain speed between throttle inputs, resulting in quicker response times and sustained boost during high-performance driving, particularly beneficial for drifting and track activities.
The performance enhancements extend beyond the engine. The Mustang RTR adopts suspension and braking components from the Mustang Dark Horse, including Brembo brakes with six-piston calipers at the front and four-piston units at the rear. The vehicle also boasts revised sway bars, a reinforced rear subframe, and recalibrated MagneRide dampers specifically tuned for high-angle drift control. An Electronic Drift Brake is included, further enhancing the vehicle’s drift capabilities.
Distinctive Styling and Interior Design
Visually, the 2026 Mustang RTR sets itself apart with a striking front fascia inspired by the GT model, featuring illuminated grille nostrils and eye-catching graphics. The car is equipped with exclusive 19×9.5-inch wheels and optional Hyper Lime brake calipers, adding to its bold aesthetic. Customers can also opt for a coordinated Hyper Lime Exterior Package, amplifying the RTR’s already aggressive presence.
Inside, the cabin reflects the same energy as the exterior, showcasing Hyper Lime contrast stitching, an RTR-engraved Drift Brake lever, and illuminated sill plates. The vehicle includes a serialized dash plaque and special graphics that appear on the digital displays upon start-up. Buyers can choose from various interior materials, including cloth/vinyl, ActiveX, or Black Onyx leather, with neutral-stitching options offered at no additional cost.
The 2026 Mustang RTR will be available exclusively on EcoBoost Fastback models, specifically for those equipped with either the optional High Package or the Premium trim. Deliveries are expected to commence in summer 2026, allowing enthusiasts to experience this innovative blend of performance and style firsthand.
With the introduction of the RTR package, Ford continues to demonstrate its commitment to delivering exhilarating driving experiences while embracing cutting-edge technology. This latest iteration of the Mustang not only enhances the EcoBoost lineup but also reinforces its legacy as a car designed for performance and passion.
