Genesis Unveils Magma GT Concept at World Premiere in France
During a spectacular event in southern France, Genesis introduced the 2026 GV60 Magma alongside two new concept vehicles, including the highly anticipated Magma GT Concept. This marks a significant step for the South Korean automaker as it aims to enhance its performance-oriented offerings in the coming decade.
The Magma GT Concept stands out as Genesis’s debut sports car, reflecting the brand’s commitment to blending luxury with performance. According to Luc Donckerwolke, Genesis president and chief creative officer, the vehicle prioritizes balance rather than mere speed or aggression. This approach aims to deliver both comfort and dynamic handling, aligning with the core philosophy of the Magma series.
Performance and Design Features
While specific details regarding the engine remain undisclosed, industry experts speculate that the vehicle may feature a variant of the 3.2-litre V8 being developed for the GMR-001 hypercar, which is set to compete in the World Endurance Championship next year. This engine, derived from two 4-cylinder units used in Hyundai’s World Rally Championship, hints at a strong racing pedigree.
The Magma GT Concept showcases classic proportions typical of a GT race car, characterized by a low hood line and an aerodynamic silhouette. The design is not only visually striking but also functional, with features like integrated front canards that enhance downforce and G-Matrix aerodynamic patterns that optimize airflow across the vehicle. The rear design includes a mechanical lamp graphic and a refined aerodynamic structure, contributing to a planted stance.
Details regarding the second concept, the G90 Wingback Concept, remain limited, but there is speculation regarding its potential release in Canada. The anticipation surrounding both vehicles signifies Genesis’s strategic push into new markets and product segments.
Future Production Plans
During the unveiling, Donckerwolke confirmed that the goal is to develop the Magma GT Concept into a track-ready race car, targeting participation in a customer-supported race series within the GT3 category. For homologation in this series, Genesis would need to produce 250 street-legal units, paving the way for a subsequent GT3 R track model. This plan suggests that fans can expect a production version of this attractive supercar in the near future.
As Genesis continues to redefine its brand image and expand its performance lineup, the Magma GT Concept is a key indicator of the company’s direction. The blend of luxury and performance in a striking design positions Genesis to compete more aggressively in the automotive market.
