Health Canada has announced a recall of approximately 16,278 True Wireless Earbuds sold through Giant Tiger due to potential burn and fire hazards. The recall notice, issued on October 19, 2023, highlights concerns regarding the USB charging cable, which may overheat because of incorrect wiring materials.

Details of the Recall

The affected earbuds were available for purchase between July 17, 2023, and October 14, 2023. They can be identified by their Universal Product Code 774223568363 and SKU 1545426, both printed on the packaging. Health Canada’s investigation has revealed that while only three reports of overheating incidents have been filed, there have been no reported injuries or fatalities.

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled earbuds immediately. Health Canada recommends returning the products to any Giant Tiger location for a full refund. For further assistance, customers can reach out to Giant Tiger Stores Limited at 1-833-838-4437 from 09:00 to 17:00 ET or via email at [email protected].

Consumer Safety Measures

In light of this recall, Health Canada emphasizes the importance of consumer awareness regarding product safety. Those who purchased the earbuds prior to July 17, 2023, or possess models with a lot number of 11012025, are not affected by this recall.

As retailers and manufacturers increasingly prioritize safety, incidents like this serve as critical reminders for consumers to stay informed about product recalls. The swift action taken by Health Canada and Giant Tiger aims to mitigate any potential risks associated with the use of these earbuds.

“Immediate action is necessary to ensure consumer safety,” stated a representative from Health Canada.

For further updates on product recalls and safety advisories, individuals are encouraged to monitor official announcements from Health Canada and other regulatory bodies.
