LEGO Carnival Masks Blend Artistry and Functionality in New Set

A new concept by LEGO builder gpc-x is gaining attention on the LEGO Ideas platform, featuring intricately designed Carnival Masks that combine aesthetic appeal with potential wearability. These masks pay homage to the rich history of masquerade masks used during the Venetian Carnival, which dates back to the 13th century. Originally worn to allow participants anonymity during festivities, these ornate accessories have evolved into cultural symbols of intrigue.
The proposed set, which consists of two masks, employs approximately 800 bricks, showcasing gpc-x’s impressive craftsmanship. The larger mask resembles a Venetian reinterpretation of the iconic Guy Fawkes mask, designed to cover the entire face. However, its weight necessitates an alternative wearing method; gpc-x recommends mounting it on a handle, reminiscent of historical practices. The smaller mask is more practical for regular use, designed to be secured with an elastic band or ribbon, featuring a distinctive beak-shaped nose element.
Both masks are finished in an elegant ivory tone, yet gpc-x encourages color customization, suggesting that future builders might opt for vibrant shades such as black, red, blue, gold, and silver to complement their attire. “As my inspiration for these were the carnival masks, I used plant and flower parts to decorate them,” gpc-x shared on their LEGO Ideas project page. “I think they would look great with many other decorating styles as well, so I have my fingers crossed that I will see many personalized masks in the future.”
The Carnival Masks currently hold over 1,300 votes on LEGO Ideas, an online community where LEGO enthusiasts showcase their creations. If approved, this project could become an official LEGO set, turning gpc-x’s artistic vision into a commercial product. The initiative not only highlights creativity within the LEGO community but also reflects a growing trend of merging art with functionality.
These masks could serve as both home decor and unique gifts, appealing to collectors and casual fans alike. With the potential for customization, they offer a new way to engage with the rich tradition of masquerade masks while fostering creativity among builders. As the project continues to gather support, fans of the LEGO brand are invited to cast their votes on the LEGO Ideas website to help bring these Carnival Masks to life.
