A proposed data center project near Braidwood is currently on hold due to internal demands and regulations from ComEd, according to statements made by city officials on Thursday. The data center was planned for a location near Interstate 55 and Reed Road, and local government representatives were actively exploring the possibility of annexing the site to facilitate the project.

Mayor Todd Lyons confirmed the project’s status in a Facebook post. He indicated that since taking office, he has publicly shared the city’s efforts to investigate a potential annexation associated with the data center. “Additional research was needed,” Lyons noted, highlighting the ongoing efforts by city officials to gather information, consult with neighboring communities, and assess the potential impacts of the development.

The developer has already closed on the property, yet progress remains stalled as city officials navigate the regulatory landscape. Mayor Lyons emphasized that the city is committed to addressing resident concerns and will disseminate further information as it becomes available.

Community engagement is a priority for the city, and officials plan to organize a public meeting to gather input from residents at a later date. Originally, a public meeting was scheduled for May 2025 to provide more insights into the project, but that meeting has since been cancelled.

The pause on the data center project reflects a broader trend in the tech industry, where local regulations and community concerns are increasingly shaping development efforts. As the situation evolves, Braidwood officials remain focused on transparency and collaboration with residents.

As the city continues its review, stakeholders are keenly awaiting updates on how the project will proceed and what it may mean for the local economy and infrastructure.
