Samsung’s Tri-Fold Phone Set for Launch This Week, Excludes US Market

Samsung is preparing to launch its first tri-fold smartphone later this week, but the device will not be available in the United States. Industry insider Evan Blass disclosed that the initial markets for the innovative device will include South Korea, the broader Chinese market, which encompasses Singapore and Taiwan, and potentially the UAE.

According to Blass, the decision to exclude the US and European markets reflects Samsung’s current strategy for this device. He expressed his hope to be mistaken about this market choice, but emphasized that all indications suggest a focus away from those regions for the debut of the tri-fold model.

The anticipated launch is expected to coincide with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2025 summit, taking place in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, from October 31 to November 1. Reports indicate that Samsung aims to unveil the phone on October 31, the summit’s opening day. Although no official confirmation has been made regarding the launch timing, the alignment with a significant international event suggests a strategic marketing approach.

The expected retail price for the tri-fold smartphone is around $2,800, which positions it approximately $1,000 higher than the current Galaxy Z Fold 7 model. Specifications hint at a device equipped with a 6.5-inch cover display, a 10-inch main display when fully unfolded, and an intermediate 8-inch display state.

Under the hood, the smartphone is rumored to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, bolstered by 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Camera capabilities are expected to include a primary sensor rated at 200 megapixels, complemented by both an ultrawide and a periscope telephoto lens, enhancing the device’s appeal to photography enthusiasts.

As Samsung gears up for this significant launch, attention will be focused on how the tri-fold design performs in the competitive smart device landscape, particularly in the markets where it will first be available.
