Starlink is extending its support to Canadians impacted by devastating wildfires by offering one month of free service until August 2025. This initiative comes as wildfires ravage several regions across Canada, particularly affecting Ontario’s cottage country, Eastern Canada, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan.

The situation has escalated, with fire bans now in effect for various parts of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), Cobourg, Medicine Hat, and the Maritimes. The wildfires of August 2025 have been particularly severe in provinces such as Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia. According to data from Yahoo News, Canada is experiencing its second-worst wildfire season on record.

Fire Statistics and Impact

As reported by the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC), approximately 7.5 million hectares have been consumed by 4,575 fires so far this year, exceeding the ten-year average for wildfire incidents. Currently, there are 638 active fires, with 418 classified as ‘out of control’. The scale of destruction is prompting urgent responses from various organizations.

For existing Starlink customers in the affected areas, a one-month service credit will be automatically applied. Customers who have cancelled or paused their service will also benefit, as they can reactivate their plans and receive credits equivalent to their previous service costs. Additionally, new customers who have purchased Starlink and reside in impacted regions can reach out to customer support for a free service credit that is valid through September 15, 2025.

Previous Assistance and Community Support

In June 2025, Starlink similarly provided a one-month free service credit to Canadians facing challenges due to wildfires. This proactive approach aligns with actions taken by local telecommunications providers such as SaskTel, which offered support to residents in Saskatchewan who were also affected by the fires.

As the situation continues to evolve, the commitment from companies like Starlink highlights the importance of community support during environmental crises. With severe weather conditions contributing to the increased frequency of wildfires, ongoing assistance will be crucial for those impacted.
