Steven Smith Launches Innovative Crocs Design, The Ripple
Steven Smith, a prominent figure in footwear design and former head of product design at Yeezy, has unveiled his first design for Crocs, named the Ripple. This new model reflects Smith’s extensive experience, spanning over 40 years in the industry, and marks a significant step in the evolution of the Crocs brand, known for its distinctive foam clogs.
The Ripple departs from traditional Crocs designs, showcasing a sculptural and modern aesthetic that aims to redefine the brand’s image. Unlike the classic models, this slip-on clog eliminates the usual laces and heel strap, focusing instead on a bold, eye-catching appearance. The design features a wave-inspired pattern, which not only enhances its visual appeal but also integrates two different types of Crocs foam technology: Croslite and Mellow. This innovation aims to enhance comfort while retaining the brand’s signature qualities.
Engineering Meets Design
Underneath its striking exterior, the Ripple is engineered for stability and support, incorporating a TPU shank into the sole. This thoughtful design element distinguishes the Ripple from other collaborations that may focus solely on aesthetics. The inaugural colorway will debut in shades of gray and blue, evoking a sense of fluidity reminiscent of water movement.
The Ripple will make its in-person debut on December 5, 2025, at Flight Club Miami, timed perfectly with Art Basel.
