Toronto Tech Week Secures Two-Year Deal with City, Opens Host Applications
The City of Toronto has renewed its commitment to Toronto Tech Week with a new two-year agreement, as the event prepares for its 2026 edition. Host applications are now open, inviting participation from various community partners. The announcement was made on Tuesday, highlighting the addition of new sponsors, including Osler, Bell, and Ada, alongside returning founding sponsors such as Shopify and Google for Startups.
Significance of the Agreement
Mayor Olivia Chow emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating that it reflects the City’s commitment to fostering talent and innovation. “Toronto is a global tech hub, and that means real jobs, real growth, and real economic impact to neighbourhoods throughout the city,” she said. Chow described the event as an opportunity to showcase Toronto’s tech landscape while inviting the world to engage with it.
Toronto Tech Week was launched in response to the departure of the Collision conference to Vancouver, positioning itself as the largest grassroots tech gathering in Canada. The inaugural event in June 2023 attracted over 15,000 attendees and featured 500 speakers across 315 events. This momentum is expected to continue into 2026.
Looking Ahead to 2026
With over 120 community partners already participating, the 2026 edition of Toronto Tech Week is set to run from May 25 to 29. Notable partners include Golden Ventures, 1Password, and MaRS. The event will once again feature its anchor event, the Most Ambitious Town Hall, on the opening day, coinciding with the release of the second annual BetaKit Most Ambitious report.
Organizers anticipate over 300 independently hosted events in 2026, alongside the return of the popular Homecoming mainstage experience. Founding organizer Mell Truong noted that the aim is to facilitate easier access to events tailored to attendees’ specific roles and industries. “We’re also encouraging folks to think and dream big when curating their events this year,” Truong commented.
As preparations continue, further programming details and partner announcements will be shared regularly. Interested parties are encouraged to fill out the application form to host events during Toronto Tech Week. “If you’re curious about Toronto tech, this is the most honest way to experience it,” said founding organizer Julia (Baird) Konefal. “Toronto Tech Week is built by Toronto for the world.”
BetaKit, a media partner for the event, will continue to play a significant role in shaping the narrative around Toronto Tech Week, promoting the vibrant tech community that the city has to offer.
