2 Dead, 3 Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 5 Near Kamloops

URGENT UPDATE: A tragic head-on collision involving a wrong-way driver has left two people dead and three others seriously injured on Highway 5 just south of Kamloops, B.C. late Friday night. The collision occurred shortly before 9 p.m., prompting an immediate response from the B.C. Highway Patrol.
Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle driving against traffic in the northbound lanes. Minutes later, a grey Dodge Ram pickup collided head-on with a white Hyundai Kona hatchback, resulting in devastating consequences. Authorities are investigating the possibility of criminal behavior as a factor in this tragic event.
“We need every available witness who can tell us what the drivers were doing in the minutes and hours leading up to this collision,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin in an official statement. The crash led to a significant disruption on Highway 5, with the road fully reopening only shortly before 6 a.m. on Saturday. This incident was part of a series of closures along the highway that day, including another caused by a semi-truck fire.
