26-Year-Old Woman Charged in Armed Robbery After Police Chase
UPDATE: A 26-year-old woman has been arrested and charged following a dramatic police pursuit that stemmed from an armed robbery incident in Prince Albert on December 21, 2023. The woman faces multiple serious charges including robbery, evading police, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
The incident unfolded around 9:45 a.m. when Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) responded to a reported robbery on the 500 block of Fifth Street East. Authorities stated that a man was threatened and had his vehicle stolen at knifepoint by an unidentified male. Fortunately, the victim sustained no physical injuries.
Following the robbery, police quickly located the stolen vehicle in the vicinity of 14th Avenue West and 19th Street West. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the occupants did not comply. Reports indicated that there appeared to be two males inside the stolen vehicle, prompting authorities to initiate a pursuit due to the violent nature of the initial crime.
PAPS officers deployed tire deflation devices at critical intersections, including 22nd Street and 15th Avenue East. Despite these efforts, the vehicle continued to evade capture until officers successfully disabled it near Fourth Avenue West and 38th Street West. The woman, the only occupant at the time of the arrest, was taken into custody without further incident.
In a press release, Police Chief Patrick Nogier emphasized the seriousness of such violent incidents, stating, “Incidents involving violence and the use of weapons present a serious risk to public safety. Our officers made measured and lawful decisions throughout this incident to protect the community and bring the situation to a safe conclusion.” He reassured the public that the police would continue to hold those who endanger others accountable.
The woman is set to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on December 22, 2023, as the investigation continues. PAPS encourages anyone with additional information about the robbery to contact them directly.
This ongoing situation highlights the urgent need for community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement to ensure public safety. Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops.
