URGENT UPDATE: The highly anticipated 32nd Totem Hoop Classic tournament has officially kicked off today at Ross Sheppard High School in Edmonton, featuring an adorable showcase of young talent. The event launched with an electrifying atmosphere as tiny players took to the court, capturing hearts and showcasing their budding basketball skills.

This year’s tournament includes 16 teams—comprising 8 boys’ and 8 girls’ teams—from across Alberta, including Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary, and even teams from Saskatchewan. Tournament director and gym teacher, Benjamin Feldman, expressed excitement about the opening ceremonies, stating, “We make it a big show, almost like you’re at a professional NBA game.”

The event not only highlights competitive spirit but also fosters community engagement and promotes interest in basketball among youths. A unique feature of this year’s tournament is the Tiny Tbirds game, inspired by the school’s main team, the Thunderbirds. Feldman shared, “A former teacher thought it would be great to involve the young children of staff members.”

With young participants trying to emulate organized basketball games, the “cuteness factor” has become a central theme. Feldman noted, “They love it; it’s really entertaining. We’re aiming to win the hearts of everyone with the kids.” Previous Tiny Tbirds participants have gone on to play for the high school team, showcasing how this event can inspire future athletes.

As the tournament progresses, fans and families gather to support their teams and witness the charm of these young athletes. The tournament promises not only thrilling games but also a memorable experience that brings the community together.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Totem Hoop Classic unfolds, and don’t miss the chance to witness the joy these young players bring to the court!
