Air Canada Flight Attendants Strike Causes Mass Cancellations NOW
URGENT UPDATE: Chaos erupts at Pearson International Airport in Toronto as Air Canada flight attendants continue their strike, defying a federal back-to-work order. This morning, flight attendants rallied outside Terminal 1, brandishing signs that read “Would you work for free?” The protest signals major disruptions for travelers attempting to fly today, with officials warning passengers to allow extra time.
Despite Air Canada’s announcement that flights would resume today, October 30, 2023, the airline’s booking site indicates that both Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge flights are cancelled until further notice. This comes after approximately 240 flights were cancelled yesterday, leaving many passengers stranded and frustrated.
“There’s no sleep for us. We’ve been calling nonstop,” said one distraught passenger aiming to reach Portugal for her honeymoon. The emotional toll is palpable as travelers brace for another day of uncertainty due to the ongoing labor dispute.
Just over the weekend, the situation escalated when the federal government intervened, sending both Air Canada and flight attendants to binding arbitration. However, the union, representing 10,000 flight attendants, has chosen to defy this order, resulting in continued strike actions and further flight cancellations.
Airport officials are advising travelers to check their flight status and prepare for potential delays. The strike has already impacted countless individuals, and as flight attendants persist in their actions, the disruption shows no signs of abating.
As the situation develops, passengers are urged to stay informed and consider alternate travel arrangements. Watch for updates as authorities work to resolve the crisis and restore normal operations at Canada’s busiest airport.
