New Zealand skier Alice Robinson has emerged as a formidable contender in the World Cup super-G, leading the event in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Robinson, already at the top of the Olympic season’s giant slalom standings, positioned herself for her first career super-G victory, finishing the first run with a time that put her 0.08 seconds ahead of Romane Miradoli from France and 0.19 seconds ahead of Italy’s Sofia Goggia.

The 41-year-old American legend Lindsey Vonn, who recently made history by becoming the oldest winner on the World Cup circuit, finished fourth, trailing Robinson by 0.27 seconds. Vonn’s previous achievements included a second-place finish in a downhill event just a day prior, showcasing her continued competitiveness.

Robinson’s performance marks a significant shift in her career, as she has previously excelled in giant slalom but had never finished better than fourth in super-G. With two victories in four giant slalom races this season, she is proving to be a dual threat as the Milan Cortina Olympics approach, set to take place from February 6 to 22, 2026.

The super-G race was not without its challenges. Mikaela Shiffrin, holder of a record 104 World Cup victories, faced disappointment as she missed the final gate in her first speed race in nearly two years. In a separate incident, German skier Emma Aicher, who won the preceding downhill event, lost control after a jump but quickly recovered and appeared uninjured.

As the World Cup circuit moves to Val d’Isere, France, for more speed racing next weekend, Alice Robinson’s growing prowess in multiple disciplines adds an exciting dimension to the upcoming Olympic Games. Her trajectory suggests that she could become a significant player in both giant slalom and super-G events at the Winter Games.
