Alleged Carjacker in Custody After Crashing Stolen Vehicle

BREAKING: A 23-year-old male is in custody following a chaotic series of events in Calgary that began with a carjacking and ended with a crash into a power pole and a fire truck. The incident unfolded around 5:30 p.m. today, when the suspect allegedly stole a vehicle from a man in his 70s in the 200 block of Walden Mews S.E..

Witnesses report that the elderly man and his grandchild exited the car just moments before the suspect drove away. Authorities confirmed that the stolen vehicle crashed into a power pole near the intersection of Shawville Road S.E. and Shawville Boulevard S.E. less than 10 minutes later.

The situation escalated when the Calgary Fire Department arrived at the scene. The driver of the stolen vehicle then reversed into a fire truck. Fortunately, the quick-thinking fire truck operator managed to push the vehicle back into the power pole, preventing any further damage or injury.

Calgary Police Service Staff Sgt. John Guigon remarked, “This is the first situation where CFD got involved and were able to play a significant role in the apprehension of the offender.”

Police swiftly arrived and apprehended the driver, who is now facing serious charges, including robbery and impaired driving. The incident highlights the potential dangers posed by carjackings and the rapid response of emergency services in critical situations.
