UPDATE: Amazon.com Inc. has just launched its Whole Foods Market 365 private-label line in Singapore, marking a significant move for the retailer in a market where it has no physical stores. Starting today, 300 items under the 365 by Whole Foods Market label will be available for eager shoppers via Amazon’s Fresh delivery service and local chain Little Farms.

This expansion is crucial as it tests the waters for Whole Foods’ private-label products outside its traditional markets in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.. “Whole Foods Market has passionate fans around the world, and we’re thrilled to bring a piece of Whole Foods Market to Singapore,” stated Sonya Gafsi Oblisk, Chief Merchandising and Marketing Officer.

With food prices climbing globally, more consumers are turning to private-label products, making this launch timely. Major retailers like Walmart and Kroger have reported gains in market share for their in-house brands, reflecting a growing trend. Amazon’s recent strategy aims to leverage the 365 label to enhance its grocery sales, particularly since acquiring Whole Foods in 2017.

“Sales of Whole Foods private-label products year-to-date have surged over 50% compared to 2019, and we continue to expand our offerings,” said Jason Buechel, Amazon’s grocery chief. With approximately 4,000 private-label items available—including Whole Foods Market exclusive and Whole Paws brands—this launch could significantly boost Amazon’s presence in the competitive grocery market.

Whole Foods operates about 535 stores globally, a notable increase from 460 at the time of the acquisition. As Amazon integrates its grocery businesses, the move to roll out the 365 brand in Singapore is a strategic effort to connect with customers and offer more affordable options.

Moving forward, industry experts will be closely watching the performance of the 365 line in Singapore and the potential for further expansion into other markets. As consumers increasingly seek value amidst rising costs, Amazon’s latest initiative could redefine grocery shopping in the region.
