Arshdeep Bains Secures Spot on Canucks’ Opening Night Roster

UPDATE: Surrey-born Arshdeep Bains has officially secured a spot on the Vancouver Canucks’ opening-night roster, set to face the Calgary Flames on October 9, 2023, at Rogers Arena. This exciting development comes just days before the highly anticipated home opener.
Bains, a left-shot forward wearing #13, has shown impressive growth during the preseason, tallying three assists in five exhibition games. He previously scored one goal in 13 games with the Canucks last season and capped off his year by winning the AHL’s Calder Cup with the Abbotsford Canucks in June.
On Monday, October 6, Canucks GM Patrik Allvin announced Bains as one of the 14 forwards making the cut for the season opener. “We’re excited,” Allvin stated. “We’ve been going for a couple of weeks now, got the exhibition games done, guys want to hit the ground running now. We’ve been practicing really well. I think we’re all pretty excited to get started.”
The 24-year-old, who has skated alongside Filip Chytil and Conor Garland during the preseason, highlighted his improved compete level, saying, “I think I’ve maybe taken a step in my compete and just being more eager and willing to do the things to be effective out there.” His dedication to working harder has resulted in increased speed and strength, boosting his confidence on the ice.
Following the season opener, the Canucks will quickly hit the road for a game against the Edmonton Oilers on October 14, 2023, before returning home to challenge the St. Louis Blues on Thanksgiving Monday, October 13, with a 4:30 p.m. puck drop.
Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how Bains will perform in his first official NHL season, making this a pivotal moment for both the player and the franchise. Stay tuned as we follow this developing story and the Canucks’ journey in the upcoming season.
